The primary issue is that few, if any, expansion dome type tanks were built this large (50m^3 = 13,200gal) and in this short+wide 'modern' tank configuration, especially on a full underframe.

Through the 1950s and 1960s... most US tank cars maxed-out at 10,000 gallons, with a few at 12,000. Most of this changed in the 1970s... when expansion domes were no longer mandated, and more modern-style tanks started to be produced. After some experiments with Jumbo and Whale-belly tanks in the 1960s and '70s, the industry seemed to have settled on a range of 13,000 to 35,000 all-welded frameless tanks.

I did not immediately find a good match in the 1200+ tank car photos on my archive drive...

A Small step direction the new tank car:

The barber S2 truck.

I hope to sell these in November. A set, 2 pair, including wheels will cost 11€ incl. VAT. In dollars that would be 11,60$ excl. VAT.

JP has some trucks to try them.

Ciao,
Rob

Ciao, Rob

These look like roller-bearing style, yes? Great to have another good truck choice, even if more modern than my time period... Things just keep getting better in TT!

Will Mark, Sazmodel, have these in his store for us NA modelers? Maybe with the Fox Valley wheels?

One remark:

Talking with Mike Böhm I was reminded to the fact that these trucks fit the tank car but there would be a problem with other cars. The hole is to large for a small screw to connect to the bottom plate of a car. A handy model guy will find a solution, but it would be better if MTB supplied a disc to be fit in the hole with the trucks.

So, I will have a talk with Vita.

If things are sorted out the trucks will be available at a shop in the neighbourhood of Chicago, together with tank cars, start set and other stuff. And perhaps Mark will take them on stock.

Rob

I have not received them yet, but the picture looks like they would fit to any car. They just need pins in the middle. The pins molded together with the trucks do not fit, they are too small.
I can promise to test them on a variety of cars

70 tons version in 1950s, 100 tons version probably later.

Zeuke-TT, what's new?

Hi TT fans,

The UTLX tank cars will be available very soon, probably next week.

Here the first pictures, where the cars still have to get the dangerous good placard.

Next week more,
