What is it about CSX?

Talk about anything and everything!

There does not seem to be any websites that are on the magnitude that CSX-sucks.com is on for any other of the class 1's, or for any railroad past or present.

There have been a few times that we have sided with CSX on things, but those are in response to someone stupid being stupid and trying to get CSX to pay.

Case in point: back when we where in Charleston, SC; a schoolboy and his friends cut school and decided to play on the railroad tracks, which involved cutting their way through a fence. A train came along, and one of the group of idiots decided to jump on, missing the mark and fell off, getting a leg cut off in the process.

The other kids ran back to school, getting teachers and the school nurse to aid the boy. The nurse called the boy "very brave" and referred to him as "smart" and made disparaging remarks about railroads in general to the media. We never found out the results, but the boy's parents and teachers tried suing CSX, claiming that CSX did not do enough to prevent the incident.

Here is the irony: the boy skipped school during an Operation Lifesaver presentation! When a local call-in radio show brought up the incident, James called in and upset a few people by telling the truth, that the kid was stupid, and Darwin should have been allowed to do his work.

But, in any event, CSX still remains on the bottom of the list of railroads with me, and this photo below is a classic!

Ohh... He has pissed a lot of people off by saying things like that.
Not long after we bought our 1993 Ford Aerostar, we were headed out to a museum, when a group of teenagers in a Chrysler Concorde convertible sped past us, using a gas station as a passing lane, sideswiping a car and a gas pump in the process. The only one of the 5 kids in the car that did not move around from front to back seat, was the driver.

We called the cops, and as we were talking to the dispatcher, we came across a brand new Chevy 3500 dually that had it's rear end shattered. About 1/4 mile away or so, there was the Concorde in question, upside down, all 5 thrown out, as none were wearing seat-belts.

James found all 5, with injuries ranging from cuts and bruises to broken bones. The guy in the Chevy was badly hurt, as the kids hit him while he was parked on the side of the road, and the impact ripped the rear axle off of the truck and spun it 270'.

When the police showed up, the kids tried to claim that they were driving slow and were wearing belts. Then the parents showed up, and tried to sugar coat everything. "It's okay, we can always get a new car."

In his statement to the police, James made it clear to the kids, parents, and the police officer; that he "did not know which was worse: the injuries that the Chevy owner sustained (he had JUST brought the truck home from the dealership a few minutes before the impact), or the fact that the kids survived at all."

Yes, a bit of a tangent, but being a life of being stupid should be painful and short.

And CSX sucks.....

Has anyone seen Unstoppable yet?

If anyone is curious, the incident the movie is based on was because of CSX letting a train run off for a few hours.

Pretty good film, love how it makes fun of CSX.

it's interesting that you hear of the older railroads that became part of CSX being quite friendly places, particularly the georgia rr and west point route. those lines even ran mixed trains till 1983 and many railfans rode them.

however they lost that attitude gradually when they were sucked into 'family lines' and then seaboard system and then eventually CSX.

one georgia rr painter proved a point when required to paint a GP7 in the family lines scheme (i think it was the first existing georgia rr unit to be repainted into the scheme- some GP38-2s were delivered in it new).

i do like the non-standard additions to the family lines paint scheme, the huge 'georgia' on the cab and the georgia herald on the hood.
