The 3'x6' layout is slated to be scrapped, or at least redone heavily due to issues with Kuehn track derailing railcars over certain turnouts.

Some of the WL20/WR20 turnouts that I have have failed in one form or fashion, ranging from the rails coming apart on the ties on one, to a pair of turnouts that I broke whilst trying to get it to match the specs on my NMRA track gauge.

I have had to be very careful for extended operations with the Kuehn track due to those turnout issues, as well as the frequency of the ends of the rails not matching right when connected on a flat surface. I have had numerous derailments due to the mismatching of the rail joints that I have had to file down to reduce the difference in rail height.

I am unsure if I will completely scrap the layout, or reuse it for something else, once the foam core is removed. The next layout and most subsequent layouts will use Tillig track ( I have one planned to use Tri-Ang track for my British TT), so at the very least that I can use my older locomotives on it.

A little work (and solder) goes a long ways...

I was able to fix the damaged Keuhn turnout, and it looks like the one that broke on the layout was actually hit by something, causing the rail to separate. Repeated testing of the repair seems to indicate that it will hold. The 38" x 6' layout will be used to evaluate techniques used to build (and repair) a TT layout, however the upcoming "big moduluar" layout will use Tillig track, if only for the fact that I cannot run my older German-sourced locos on Keuhn track.

Yep - the Tillig track has a higher profile.

Now I have a bit of a mystery on my hands, as some of my BTTB locomotives actually will work on my Keuhn track layout, and some will not, even after checking gauge and all, every thing checks out.

Could there be variances in the flanges of the BTTB motive power?
