Forum how-to - tips and tricks about posting, formatting, et

Post by CFRiad »

After some time spent on searching and a few unsuccessful trials, I decided to start a topic on the mechanics of the forum.

I have two questions about topics you may have the answer for:
  1. How to create a link to a specific post within the forum - not sure if this is even possible.
  2. How to add thumbnail images - the [img] tag inserts a large image and any of my attempts to specify height and width failed; also the standard [timg] BBCode tag did not work for me.
Let's make it easier for new entrants.

It works, but it needs some trick.

For example, if you click on the headline of the second message in this topic, you'll get such wrong address as:

Code: Select all

Ok; copy it somewhere and go back.
Now click on the headline of the whole topic (painted blue); you will get such address (of the whole topic):

Code: Select all

Now, add that "#p31333" to this address and you'll get the link to the second message:

Code: Select all

8-)

Bernd, in this way you get a link to the whole topic, not specific message.
Try to make a link to the third message in that topic...

Yes. So you can use my method.

I beleive there is some error in the forum software, or in the settings.
That "#p27793" is just the "anchor", but it should be added not to the address of the whole forum, but to the address of the topic.
If you take the address of the topic and add it manually, it will work:

I think there is a bug at the forum software. The link behind a headline should be

Code: Select all

http://www.ttnut.com/viewtopic.php?p=27793
instead of

Code: Select all

http://www.ttnut.com/#p27793
http://www.ttnut.com/viewtopic.php?p=27793

This feature works correctly in other phpBB based forums so it's probably just something in the control panel that isn't set properly, not necessarily a bug in phpBB itself.

I took a look on a phpBB demo backend and I can't find a setting, that fit to the problem. I think, it must be a line in the viewtopic.php. The function of the files are explain here: http://www.phpbbdoctor.com/doc_files.php
