Yeah, I kinda lament that as well. It is not as jarring as the early 2000s Knight Rider and Knight Rider 2 PC-games by Davilex. The voices used by the characters were nowhere even close, but it was definitely fun to use my steering wheel and pedal set with my computer to play the games.
Around early-2003 (it was completed before STS-107), I made a version of the Knight Rider (1982) intro using limited animation using Microsoft Paint and Microsoft Movie Maker, featuring my car at the time, a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire as KITT. I called it "Sunfire Rider". I need to see if I can find that, upload to YouTube, and link it here.
