H P Products Consolidation

Post by Bill Dixon »

I have acquired an H P products 2-8-0.
The pilot has disintegrated into four pieces.
Anybody have a spare for sale?

Hi Bill,
Is it a cast pilot or a stamped (like a switcher pilot?)
I probably have something here

It was a cast pot metal pilot.
It broke at the cylinders, and behind the pilot beam, and the pilot beam split where the coupler mounting screw hole was.
I am not sure if the metal is going bad (or was just cheap pot metal) or if it was just stressed once too often.

The seller is sending me a replacement he has so we will see what transpires.

Looking at it, if I was skilled at brass work, one could be made from brass bits.
I might go that way. At the very least it would be an interesting learning experience.
