I have to guess and can choose between three railroad companies. I'll say the Rock Island series 5800-5899. I'll keep the other two to myself.

My first thought was Union Pacific, but the listed cardinal points do not fit.

I wish you more luck!

Murad, you are almost too quick, 1 minute for midnight.

Going back to the South, there is only one big company left and that is UP in the range 126000 till 126524. SP does not have PS-1's, but let's say look-alikes. And yes I try to be prototypical.

It will be the UP PS-1 with the yellow lettering. Car numbers you will get later, but the range will have 3 car numbers.

So, Murad you will get next year an UP PS-1 40ft box car.

Ciao and till the next time.

The railway itself didn't go northwest but the boxcars certainly did!

I really like that the box cars are won by people round the globe.
I dismissed UP, because of the prominent yellow Box cars favoured by the model railway industry. Shame.

Congratulations, Murad!

Oh, I do not really count a minute, but I have to be fair to other users.

Anyway it will be the simple UP box car, see picture. This car is from 1957. Somewhere in the sixties these cars were repainted with the shield logo. Perhaps somebody can tell me when that was. The car with the shield logo will also be produced but that has to wait several years.

This is almost production batch 1. Production batch 2 will be mainly 50ft box cars with 10ft doors. PRR and RI will follow in batch 2/3.

In December the last part of the quiz will follow.

Congrats, Murad!

My mistake, I didn't expect an old freight car to be advertised with a current UP railroad map.

I don't know when, but not all cars were painted with the shield logo. Some retained their original paint scheme, at least one even 2019. Here are two examples from 1979, one with and one without. In 1976 there was a car with a smaller shield logo only in white.

There are detailed articles in ten parts about the 40' PS-1 boxcars in Railmodel Journal from March 1993 to November 1994 and part X, XI, and XII in June, July, and December 1997. But no specific about the UP shield logo.

Thank you Mirko.
I did not have a picture of the UP 126176 with a Youngstown door, we will add it. And depending on Richard perhaps the one with a white shield logo. In that case there will be 4 UP 40ft cars. (Don't worry we will add some more 50ft and 40ft UP cars.)
Ciao,

So I totally blew it on this quiz. My research was "sub-optimal" lol and I had no clue. Anyway, cool to see different people winning!
