That had to be the most frustrating build I ever did, and after all that I think it's still sitting in a box waiting for me to put the sides on to finish it. It started off badly, I messed up one of the first pairs I cut out and had to try and make replacements from the spare card stock on the ends. I'll have to admit the one you're doing looks better than the one I did!

Wow, is that thin card or plastic? You are definitely one keen modeller!

It was thin cardboard, glued with dilated white glue so the cardboard clings to the roof. And it turned out better than I expected.

Now I have to find out more about prototypes to know if I actually need to do this again. In hindsight it wasn't that bad to do. But next time I should use a proper exacto knife.

About a year ago I received a surprise package from Al with a couple of car kits. Many thanks. I finally got around to "finishing" the first one. It would have been fairly simple, but the resin parts did not fit that well. I´m not sure if I will change the sides to wood with white metal doors, hence the rubber bands. You can see the next one up is a wood reefer in the background, the body got it´s paint job this morning.

I also have some other cars ready for decalling.

Finally some decalling again. I will apply some more coats of Micro Sol, but I wanted to show something. Star Line sides reworked with some die cast fronts. Decals by K4decals.

As my new year´s resolution for this year is to get a full CPR train running, I start from the end and finished my fist van. I got an H.P. Products one. The other one I have has to many windows and I can´t fit Canadian Pacific on it. It might become a CN or GN caboose. I carefully took it apart and tried to rework it to make it more prototypical. There´s actually a small photo of a caboose with an off center cupola in the early H.P. Products catalogue. I cut the original sides in two, but the gap and the drill holes always showed, so I made new sides from Northeastern profile wood and also new roofs from card board. Completely repainted. Decals from Black Cat Decals, which was a waist, because it would also do the flanger and the snowplough and I just needed the number and the CP lettering.

I think I´m getting ready to build one of the Art&Detail wooden vans, if I can get hold of one.

When I was wondering why I didn't make any progress on the layout, I realized I didn't have any MOW cars. The crane is Roco N scale (it might have been sold as Con-Cor or Model Power in the US). I removed the cab and will build some wooden cab for it. Right now it's just as a scale test. I think it works.

Someone here had a Bachmann N scale crane with other trucks ( was it Arseny?), but I couldn't get hold of one for a reasonable prize.

If you want a TT scale crane, Brownhoist crane is available on Shapeways:

Thanks J P,
I forgot about that one. Seems somewhat expensive. Might be a thing for the future.

There's a cheaper option here which may be adaptable:
