Upgrading the Tri-ang DMU

Post by RodTT »

If I can summon up the parts and the determination I have half a mind to upgrade this rather nice looking Tri-ang DMU I bought some years ago to modern standards including all-wheel pickup from the driving car, DCC and possibly sound. Has anyone done something similar and if so can they suggest a suitable replacement drive/wheels? 3SMR here in the UK have lots of motor bogies on their website but they seem to be all sold out. I've also asked on a forum here in the UK. I'd consider rejoining the 3mm Society if they had the parts.

I do have some dual-shafted can motors like the ones I used for the GP9s and I daresay Sebnitz might have some suitable cardans but obviously the GP9-size trucks wouldn't be suitable.

Probably the Kuehn CSD 363 has the closest bogie size and you just need to extend the cardan length. The distance beween the axles on the DMU is about 2700 mm the 363 has 3400 mm bogie.
