Can I just add that this model is great! The pride of my fleet. All aspects of this model are to the highest caliber.

VT18.16 is my absolute favorite of all kinds of rail vehicles.
It was the dream of my childhood to drive such train, eventually.

But this thread lacks some prototype images...

Additionally, there was another color of it. I couldn't find any image of it on the internet. But one time I've seen a black-and-white photo of VT18.16.02 in it's initial livery. It was completely dark (I guess, red) and had some thin light (I guess, white) stripes above and below the windows and at the lower edge of the side walls.

At Berlin-Lichtenberg I saw one of these trains (probably was a museum preserved sample) parked on the auxiliary tracks next to the repair shop, just parked there (who knows for how long), looking pretty. Very impressive train! I think I took some pictures (on film) of the train.

The train has been parked there since 1997 (...or 1996?). When I started my further training to become a locomotive engineer (what I unfortunately failed), the train still stood at Wriezener Bahnhof very close to Ostbahnhof. When this further training ended, the train stood where it still is. I also took some pictures.
Did you know that another train of this type is (or was?) relatively close? DB's historic train of this type had it's regular track at the repair shops of Berlin-Lichtenberg (they are southwest of the train station, close to S-Bahn station Nöldnerplatz, not visible from there—what you mean, are former freight or storage tracks). Unfortunately, this track is not visible from public territory. I'm not sure if the train is still there since it is not operable anymore.

I'm not sure. But I think, it was a very limited run from Kres.

Unfortunately, this statement doesn't fit for Kres' model of the prototype train (VT18.16.01). The prototype had different doors.

This description could be a bit misleading.

"Vindobona" is the name of the train Berlin—Praha (Prague)—Wien (Vienna). It was launched in the early 1950'ies and still runs. This train was operated by various train-sets of DR, ČSD and ÖBB and was changed into a locomotive-hauled train in the late 1970'ies or early 1980'ies.
But it is not the name of this particular type of trains.

On the other hand, besides the "Vindobona" this type of trains operated several other connections to Czechoslovakia, Sweden, Denmark, West Berlin and within the GDR.

So, equating this train with the name "Vindobona" is actually wrong.

Much more elegant machine in my opinion than its West German counterpart (the TEE).

Elegant is the word, but I really like the TEE and wish there were a TT TEE. And thanks for the photos. One in particular from LVG1 will look nice on the computer desktop screen.

Already in the 1980ies there was a little firm in Horn-Bad Meinberg that made resin castings of various TT vehicles. They also made some of the TEE trains. Additionally to these castings you need chassis of V200 (West) and some 4-axle passenger cars to make a train-set. Rebuilding instructions were published in an early issue of "TT-Kurier".
