>> And put the better trucks on ;) <<

What ! you don't like my Tillig / Lionel / EMD sideframe combo's ????

No, I'll stick with the Tillig trucks. I only managed a couple of pairs of the MTB 9' trucks and I'm hanging on to them for another project that hit a brick wall some time back.

Have had a slight change of plans anyway. Added up the cost of ordering all the truck parts from Sebnitz and it only works out about 15 Euro cheaper than buying a complete BR 218 #02709 budget special so, I'll get one on those, strip it for parts and I'll end up with a motor w/flywheels as a bonus. Just gotta wait til they're in stock again.

Sorry I meant sideframes.

And you can pick up a Tillig BR 218/215 on Ebay for less than the budget special starter version.

I think Mike got an order from Alex to build the etched parts for the U30B. The prototype was present at the fair at Leipzig at 2017. I will ask him.

I remember enquiring about it. I don't remember placing an order though...

Anyway if Mike does have something that would be very cool.

As a reference, here’s my original post on the project. You may want to skip towards the end...it’s a long one.

An order is perhaps the wrong word. You have asked for it. He has it sketched and let it etched. A test build should be the next step.

That would be good. I can get them done but, it would save a lot of time.

Back to square one !! Forgot I'd put a BR 218 aside for powering the FA's when I get around to them. Striped it down only to find the motor/flywheel combo wont fit in the U30 body. The motor is 11.9mm wide BUT the flywheels are 12.75mm wide and just wont fit so, it's back to Chinese motor and small flywheels from NWSL. Have ordered parts from MBS Sebnitz but in mean time it's back to the day job so, things will slow down for a while.

Have weighted up the fuel tank so it's ready to go

Bottom of fuel tank filled in and tubing for screw access in place.

Now weighs in at 30gram.

Oh, I also found a couple of photos of Seaboard units with EMD trucks but, I'll be doing this one in CB&Q grey/red. They were the only pre-BN road to order any although BN inherited some from Frisco when they joined the merger. Might do a 2nd unit in Frisco if this works out OK.

Aha I was gonna ask you about how much weight you got in the tank. 30g is not insignificant.

One more step forward. When digging out the chassis I'd put aside for the FA project, I also found the sideframe castings that came with the kits that Elmer did quite some time back.

Have sanded back the detail on the Tillig side frame to get it as thin as possible and then glued the replacement sideframes in place.

Slowly, getting there.

Nice. I never considered the BR 218 trucks as viable for this project since I wanted to do a limited run RTR model and getting them in bulk from Tillig was not an option. But they're close to perfect for DYI.
