What makes this a hopper and not a gondola? Is it the tapered sides and ends?

The name "Hopper" was probably chosen because it is in the old magazine of 1972. See here.

It is a high-side rotary coal gondola. Not helpful is that the ATSF has designated all gondolas, open hoppers and covered hoppers as Ga-class (or gondola cars).

Here's my finished article, with just a touch of light weathering. Not my best effort in some ways, but I did like the decals and the way the yellow lettering is not a bad match for the yellow paint job.
