Re: Kemtron Tiny Tim 0-4-0
What is your opinion; $170 - is it reasonable price for 0-4-0 in a good condition?

That does look like a nice one and it has been ugraded to a can motor but the price seems a little high to me.
I would check with John Harmon or Larry Sayre to see if either of them has one to sell.

Thanks, Rob, but I do not want to buy 0-4-0 steamer; I love big steam locomotives.
I only just wanted to know the reasonable price.
(But if you can ask John Harmon or Larry Sayre if they have SOMETHING ELSE to sell, it would be great! ;)
As I know, they do not have emails, so it's hard to contact with them)

John is selling a collection on Ebay right now, the 0-4-0 isn't one but the HP locos and boilers are his (someone else is selling for him, I guess he didn't trust my bad luck selling on Ebay!)

Does anyone know how to tell the Lindsay version from the Kemtron version?

Re: Kemtron Tiny Tim 0-4-0
Here is a pair of photos of my second 0-4-0. The motor says Lindsay on it, but I do not know if the engine was a Kemtron release or something else.
The loco was seized up fairly bad, there was some sort of gunk binding the wheels up, so the engine had to come apart for cleaning and lubrication.
Here is what it looks like apart:

Here is the boiler casting, with some of that gunk still on it (the white/grey stuff):

There IS no difference between the versions- Lindsay, Robico , Kemtron- the only way to tell is if it actually has the original packaging. They were made from the same molds, and the name changed when they changed hands. Even when John Harmon was making them, the cast parts are the same except fot the changes he made for a can motor.AngrySailor302 wrote:Does anyone know how to tell the Lindsay version from the Kemtron version?
Is that the scrapper one from that Ebay lot? That one was really bad, I'm surprised the tires were still on the cast centers. Usually when the zinc rot is that bad the driver spokes break off. Does the motor work?

The motor does indeed work, and it seems the problem was more to foreign objects/debris than zinc pest.areibel wrote:Is that the scrapper one from that Ebay lot? Re: Kemtron Tiny Tim 0-4-0
I did some more examinations of my new 0-4-0 and it almost seems like the engine was in water at one time, but only part of it. The motor does work nicely, (it took some time for the brushes to re-seat after cleaning), and I see no signs of zinc pest, just some surface corrosion that did not leave any pits or scars, which are some early signs of zinc pest.
The only reason that I was curious as to if it is possible to determine make is for the purposes of my North American Locomotive inventory. I will just list this one as being from Kemtron for inventory purposes.
