One method for reducing shipping costs between US and Canada is to have an easy way to drive from one country to the other. Someone living near Toronto, or Detroit could do this easily; Seattle might be less do-able.

The idea is to drive across the border with all the boxes (almost all this stuff is duty free) and mail them from a Mailboxes, UPS, etc., location. Obviously, you wouldn't do this every day, more like twice a month. The buyer could specify "slow and cheap" shipping, as an option. I remember seeing it done a few years back, and I think it is easier today.
