Blehhhhh. Oh well, it'll happen when it happens.

I was wondering... you have a "standardised" design for the... what do you call it? The cross piece. I've been thinking I'll be wanting to draw up a variety of trucks, and it occurred to me that having a standardised design for our trucks would be greatly convenient...

Not really. It's all about the truck "side frame". The "cross piece" is pretty simple so I didn't bother making a template for it.

These trucks should be ready for purchase in the next few days - I just need to make a small edit on the design.

Hi Alex,

What do we use for wheels/axles for these trucks, and where are they available? Seems to me I remember reading that Elmer had quit making the Coastal Engineering trucks because he had run out of wheelsets...

Up to Alex to say for sure, but i believe these are designed for the standard 18.5mm long needlepoint axle wheelsets as supplied by ModMueller, Tillig, Gold Coast and most other producers.

At least the wheels in the truck in the picture appear to be this type. This is the 'default' TT wheel standard at this point.

I like the old HP flush axle wheels They had a finescale appearance and you could argue that adhering to the Euro NEM standard is a step backwards.

But even if a run of the HP style wheels was done, they'd have limited application - no trucks are made in which you could use them, since Elmer ceased production.

Elmer's trucks were not the Coastal Engineering trucks, his were a bit better designed. The CER truck was able to take either a pinpoint or a flush axle, depending on the design. They came with an odd design of plastic wheel with integral cast needlepoint, on brass axles.

I got what I imagine may be the last of the CER trucks from Larry Sayre. They aren't ideal but as they are 5'3" - 5'4" wheelbase, useful for Aussie narrow gauge.

i should correct the dimensions for the Coastal Engineering trucks. they are a shade under 5'5" wheelbase. problem is some of them vary from this, not sure why but maybe the plastic they were made of shrinks slightly.

the other issue, potentially more serious, is that there seems to be no uniformity in where the hole for the axle goes. they are injection molded so i'm unsure how this occurred.
