Yes, it looks like Tver-built.
Tver carbuilding plant is "in business" until today, it produce "roomette" sleepers too, since 1990s or early 2000s.

It is modern photo. The "Express" train is painted blue since 2008.
Before 2008 it was red, identical with "Red Arrow".

I don't know, which Russian city he is from. His wife is from Novosibirsk.

But to be serious:
I don't like to translate names. To me it feels kind of impolite.
I'm studying Cartography. And also in cartography the tendency is towards using the original geographical names and not the names from other languages anymore.

I didn't know that sleepers were made in Poland at all. Polish Railroads purchased 306 sleepers (all with additional broad gauge trucks for gauge changing) from GDR—more than any other standard gauge railroad—and further ones from Yugoslavia (I think 30). So actually, there was no neccessity to care about self-made sleepers in Poland.

Some of them are not geographical names and have some sence. For example, "Smena". Or "Юность" ("Yunost") - "Youth", etc.
Or "Sapsan" - it means "Peregrine Falcon".

Well, may be, it would be interesting to know what's behind a name. But even if I possibly try to understand the meaning, I'm not going to use a translated name.
...because it stays a name—the train's name.

My buddy Fred doesn't like to be called Fritz (same name—other language). And my neighbor here in Dresden (his name is Sascha [German spelling of Sasha]) will not even feel addressed if I call him Alex (same name—other language).
To use the translation of a name is a sign of a lack of respect in my eyes—indifferent if it's about a person or a thing.
So, if a train's name is Омич (Omich), I will call it Omich and not Omsker.

It's simply a question of respect in my eyes.

By the way:
Юность is one of the few Russian words which I understand without dictionary. :grin:
... besides вокзал, of couse—the most important word in all languages. :wink:

I apologise for my layout: it was my first time I posted stuff in this forum, I will try to do better next time.
I found this pamphlet dating back in the 80's that I picked at the World Fair in Bucharest (1983). This company manufactured a lot of cars for many countries: East Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, Roumania, Hungary, former Czechoslovakia, former Soviet Union, Iran, Irak, China, Mongolia, Korea, Uganda, Egypt (and some other countries) just to name a few.
Questions for you LVG1: What was VEB Kombinat Schinenfahrzeugbau DDR? The exporter?
What is/was DEWAG?

It was the trust owning all manufacturers of railroad vehicles in GDR—kind of holding company.
It was founded in 1945 and initially named "VVB des Lokomotiv- und Waggonbaus" (Association of People's Own Companies of the Locomotive and Carriage Building)—abbreviated: LOWA. In 1954 it was renamed into "VVB Schienenfahrzeugbau" (Association of People's Own Companies Rail Vehicle Building).   • VEB Waggonbau Dessau—official abbreviation: WBD (manufacturer of freight cars, mainly reefers; additionally manufactured: handcarts, bicycle trailers, wooden window frames and doors and so on)
  • VEB Waggonbau Gotha (only manufacturer of streetcars [trams] in GDR, additionally manufacturer of freight cars [mainly hoppers, reefers and heavy weight and depressed center flat cars] and during early 1950'ies also glider planes; last streetcar made in 1967; from 1967 on change of production into manufacturing of extractor fans, refrigerating and water treatment devices, from 1983 on also chassis for autos)

    LEW furtherly owned following companies:
    • VEB Schichtpreßstoffwerk—official abbreviation: SPW (laminates)
    • VEB Galvanotechnik Leipzig—official abbreviation: GTL (galvanizing technology)
