Trip to Germany 9-13 April 2014

Postby Rich B » Tue Feb 25, 2014 4:09 am

I'm planning to head across on the dates for a beer and sausage fix. While I'm there, there are at least two major railway events underway- Intermodellbau in Dortmund and a celebration of 175 years since the opening of the Dresden-Leipzig railway- the latter coinciding the the Dresden steam locomotive meet.

An objective of my trip, other than savouring porcine products, is getting some bits from TT cottage manufacturers. I've previously not seen much on offer at Intermodellbau in that respect, but I might not have been looking hard enough. I note that there are model railway exhibitions as part of the festivities in Dresden and Leipzig, but I'm not sure how enthusiast geared they are. Of course, if in Dresden, I could always head down to Sebnitz, though that's time consuming and takes me away from the considerable programme of events.

Are any TTnutters going to Dortmund or Dresden/Leipzig for these events? I'm travelling solo so getting a bit of company now and then would be great. And if anyone has any info about the exhibits/traders at the exhibitions in Dresden & Leipzig, it'd be appreciated by me!

Hi Rich, maybe an additional option: http://www.tt-board.de/forum/showthread.php?t=47938
Myself, MacG and Mike from Lok-n-Roll will presumably be there.

At the 12.April is also the small series fair "Kleinserienmesse" at the ENSO Building behind the central station "Hauptbahnhof".

All about the ”175 years German long-distance Railway between Leipzig and Dresden” at http://ferneisenbahn.de/en/start.html

Not all TT-manufacturer are at the Intermodellbau at Dortmund. It is too far west :wtf:

I hope we see us, maybe at the TT-Board regulars desk (Stammtisch).

I've started booking my trip- so far I've got my flight home and a hotel in Dresden booked. I'm taking CNL456 to Dortmund (actually Duisburg for an extra hour and a half in bed!) on the 12th, which means I need to be at Dresden Hbf by about 2045- whether going to the Stammtisch first is possible, I don't know.

My overall plan is to fly to and from Düsseldorf, as in addition to Intermodellbau I'd like to photograph some of the RBH industrial locos. I'll get the CityNightLine to and from Dresden/the Ruhrgebiet. So I'll be enjoying the Ferneisenbahn celebrations all day on the 11th and 12th April. I'm hoping an English friend will be in Dresden on the 12th.

You will drive with the CityNightLine from Dresden, which departs at the 12th at 20:45?

The Stammtisch begins at 17:00 and ends mostly after 23:00. With the S-Bahn you can reach Dresden Hauptbahnhof in time, if you go at 20:00. https://goo.gl/maps/2fwO0

The departure time is 20:53, so if I get to the station for 20:45 I should be OK. It also picks up at Bf. Neustadt, so I have a little flexibility.

It turns out my British buddy is leaving at around the same time, he's getting the 21:06 train to Prague, so I'll have to see what he thinks about the Stammtisch. He's a keen railway modeller (though his DDR era layout is being built in H0, there's no accounting for taste!) so may well be interested.

Taxari and I accidentally met Rich B shortly at the steam locomotive meeting "Dampfloktreffen". But we forgot to take a picture.

Here is one from the "Stammtisch" with some of the germans guys.

Start from left to right, Desiofreak (TT-Board.de), MacG, ASH (TT-Board.de), Mike (Lok-n-Roll), Gruenes-Herz, Taxari and Carsten.
