The 2018 Trains at Christmas show is over and we have made it home safe and sound. The customary "post-mortem" will be written up real soon.

Here is my "post-mortem" of the Trains at Christmas 2018 show:

The Good
The show staff was quite helpful in providing assistance in setting up and take-down of the show equipment.
The attendance of the show was quite high, rivaling, or even exceeding the attendance seen at shows in Atlanta, which is a much bigger city overall than Sioux Falls is by a long shot.
The overall attitude of the visitors was quite nice, with only one aggressive attendee of note (He was "110% sure that American Flyer never made S Scale"). He did apologize later on when he found that his purchase that he was showing off was really S scale, not O scale.
There were quite a few people familiar with TT Scale, and nobody tried to argue what scale TT scale "really is".
The test-article MTB SW 1200 re-power ran with no issues at all, other than a little bit more noise as the motor wears on.
We were able to pick up a box of Tri-Ang TT for $80 that included a 0-6-0 Jinty, a pair of coaches, and four trucks as well as almost enough "Type A" track to make two ovals. Also included was a pair of badges and a load of original Tri-Ang paperwork.

The Bad
The only "bad" thing of note was that the location of the tables we were assigned was not that good, blocking the water fountain and between the two restrooms in the show hall. When people needed water from the fountain, it proved to be a pain in the neck to move around in the limited space for the tables. Again, not a real major issue though.

The Ugly
The big bit of ugliness was the snowstorm that hit last Friday and early into Saturday morning made for slow progress on I-29 heading south.

It took us almost 8 hours to traverse roughly 195 miles. The last 45 miles was spent traveling about 20 MPH on average. That said, about 45 minutes of that total time was spent attending to and providing aid to a motorist that had slid on ice and slammed into a barrier and destroyed her car and was on the side of the road in shock from both the cold and the impact.

With Duchess Natasha enjoying her retirement, and her replacement, Phoebe Snow, being expecting, we were unable to bring an ESA, which proved a little un-nerving for me.

The Awesome
First off, the woman who we helped after her accident suffered no serious injuries.
Second, we have been invited to display TT Scale at shows in 5 different states over the course of next year, we will have to pick and choose what shows, due to our plans for the 2019 NTS in Salt Lake City.
Third, we also were paid $30 by the organizers of the show for our efforts to run a display at the show, with an open invitation to display TT at future dates for the show and location.

Overall, a very well done show, one that we expect to repeat again in the future.
