Tillig turnouts

Postby WillYart » Wed Aug 22, 2012 9:48 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm getting ready to order track, and I was wondering, I noticed that there are available some "flex track curved points" turnouts. Has anyone used these?

83426 Tillig flex track curved points 15°
83427 Tillig Flex track curved points 12°

Yes.
The geometry corresponds to EW2 (15°) and EW3 (12°), you can decide yourself if you want to make a left or right turnout, a symetric turnout or even a turnout with two different radii.
It is not too difficult to assemble and they are cheaper than the assembled turnouts.
It would be a good idea to buy also 1 assembled piece of each type of turnout you want to use - that makes getting the correct geometry (and the length of the individual rails) easier.
The tips of the points have to be slightly sanded - but that is the same for the assembled turnouts.
I found a very good description on the internet and got a permission from the author to translate it to English.

I am working on the English version of the guide... it is 18 pages!

If I am not mistaken, they are not ready-to-use turnouts, but kits. Are you ready to assemble them?

Thanks j p and Arseny. Added the advice on sanding the tips of the points to my trackwork notes.

Well then I'll think I'll try them.

I think they're assembled; these switches are listed on Reynaulds under flex track:

83420 and 83421 are kits.

83426 and 83427 are apparently the same thing assembled.

According to Tillig's catalog, 83420 and 83421, and 83426 and 83427 are all kits.
The difference: 83426 and 83427 are blued.
Ready-to-use turnouts are 83321, 83321, 83332, 83331, 83342, 83341 (simpled turnouts), 83362, 83361, 83380, 83381 (curved turnouts)

Followup: I ended up ordering two 83420's from Eurotrain. I'll see how it goes, if I can handle them I'll incorporate them into the layout plan. Thanks!
