tillig br 218 chasis for f3

tillig br 218 chasis for f3

Postby jmass » Thu Dec 20, 2012 3:24 pm

a while back someone on the board mentioned using the chasis from a tillig br 218 for a lionel f3 conversion. cant find that thread. any other info on this topic would be much appreciated as i found a local hobby shop that actually has a couple big and ruggeds in stock. the guy has no idea what they are and has them displayed with the lionel o guage trains.

Maybe it was Alco FA from PVM, not F3 from Lionel?

your right Arseny, and judging by the difference in lenght, fa being 53 ft to the f3s 51 feet might be some work involved. thanks.

if the F3 shell is the correct length then a BR218 is likely to be a couple of feet too short. the BR218 are probably closer to an EMD FT, consulting the data table on the ttboard.de perhaps about a foot too long for an FT. hollywood foundry's probably a better option.

I don't know what the wheelbase is for the BR218? But I think all the F units are the same, 34 feet IIRC.
But why not just get a LokN Roll, cheaper than a BR218 and no buchering needed?

BR218 - 71.7mm and 23mm wheelbase trucks according to the ttboard.de.

Fs are 30', excepting the FT which is 27'3" and FPs were 34'.

I'm wondering if those of you who own Tillig 218 diesels can provide some photos of their chassis?.

Tillig I believe have had a few different types of chassis and I wanted to see whether 218 bogies could be removed and used in a scratchbuilt mech as the basis of a 9' truck for EMD B-Bs.

Cheers, Ben

I'll be able to make photos for you, but not today. Some days later, maybe a week.
I am moving to the new flat, so I don't know where is my photo and where is my BR218, in which box.
Remind me if I forget.

I use Tillig-bogies from a BR101 with the axles of a BR218 for a GP9. The F3 in real have the same bogies, I think.
