Tillig 50th Anniversary - UP 2-bay Hopper

Postby Richard-B » Fri Nov 16, 2012 12:34 pm

On eBay... spotted a Tillig #01327 50th Anniversary "Sonderset". LIMITED EDITION Set...
Tillig-50th-Anniv_.jpg
eBay 110977197131

To my amazement... it includes a 34' Two Bay Union Pacific 50 Ton Steel Hopper!!!! (top left)

I have never seen this car before.
Does anyone actually have one of these? Photo perhaps?

I don't believe that hopper is a Tillig model. Someone just replaced the car that used to be in that set.

Car fits the space perfectly...???
...and the seller says it is cellophane wrapped... with original documentation. Hmmm...

The car is a 2-bay hopper with "heap shields" (raised ends) which is not the same as HP or Kemtron.

There was a limited quantity of these sets with the Kemtron hopper. I believe only 50 sets. The other anniversary sets containing a other car.

Well... for better or worse, the seller is Mike Braunstein... He -should- know what it is.
Someone (not ME!) could ping him.

Confirmed. It is mentioned on German tt-board. People registered there can even see a picture:)

das erste Sonderset hatte anstatt dem G20 einen schwarzen Union Pacific Trichterwagen von HP drin, war allerdings deutlich teurer und auch nur in kleiner Stückzahl hergestellt worden.

There were more than 50 sets, almost 100. Dick Taylor and me did supply TILLIG with the Kemtron kits. TILLIG did want more than these kits, so Dick picked up the molds from Stan and Hank Lisowski and sent it to TILLIG. But the molds did not fit to the TILLIG tools. The molds/tools are still at TILLIGs, so they were not destroyed by the flood two years ago.

sorry because of my poor English

THIS IS AMAZING!!!!

These may be the ONLY TT molds "saved" from the bottomless pit of the Lisowski's...
Apparently; The son promised never to let the rest of the TT tooling see the light of day after the father died.

I wonder if they could ever be re-issued from Germany????
If not done soon... RP (Rapid Prototyping) technology will make them fully obsolete.
