Small 3 x 6 Layout to Begin

Small 3 x 6 Layout to Begin

Postby Sventton » Wed Sep 20, 2017 12:56 pm

Well, actually about 3 foot 3 inch by 6 foot 3 inch. Based on an old N scale design in one of those MR Magazine's "Best of Year" issues, just slightly jazzed up. Plan is to have a view block between the front and back, water feature on coal breaker side also, and diamond allows for an interchange. No, there won't be any catenary on this one.

Looks good, just the track is a little close to the edges for my liking.

Do you have any videos of the layout in operation yet?

Videos? No. It will probably be a slow to develop project most likely as I only have a couple evenings in a week to work on it. It is straight DC and I was just soldering dropper wires last night. I have more TT "stuff" boxed up that will need to come out. I have purged myself of "most" of my other scale equipment though I still have N to sell off and a collection of O scale spring motor toy trains (various Marx, AF, Ives, Hornby). I'll just be keeping the TT and a shelf type switching layout for my Trix Express HO 3-rail equipment. When it fills in a bit, wired and ballasted, I'll post some video.

Some elevation has been added, blocks are wired, but still fiddling with that pesky crossing. I received the Tillig 15 degree one yesterday and that will provide a better transition than using the old Triang heavy rail version, but of course it throws the track geometry off so I will have to make adjustments to the one (non-loop) crossing section. The old Lionel F3 is woefully underpowered, maybe it needs more break in work as its been boxed for a decade. I'm working on another GP7, and E7- A and B's are getting paint stripped. Eventually I'll get to the GP38 and a developing FA-1 project. John

I agree, good looking layout with some interesting possibilities for switching.
Will you have a small hill or embankment ?
