It took me a while to decide, but I think I hate it. Its nice that they can make use out of old equipment, but it is really ugly... And not the good kind of ugly like the old design.

The Soviets designed the M62 to meet Hungarian requirements soon after MAV announced their first order for 20 Nohabs (which of course became the only order).

Turns out the Sergei came into being thanks to Hungary and the NOHAB. The Hungarians bought a number of NOHABs from Sweden (?) and the Russians got pissed off because they're buying from a non Eastern block country. They then forbade importing of western locos by East block countries and developed the Sergei to fill the need. The rest as they say is history.
