Re: New Naples Street

Yes, that's an idea I'd also been thinking of - a simple sector plate. But I wanted to keep the track static as far as possible, for simplicity. Anyway I haven't discounted any suggestions yet, and I'm going to let a few ideas sink in before I go any further. I may wait until the new Peco small radi...

Re: New Naples Street

Actually, I made a new fiddle yard (or stick) for Naples Street for occasionally playing trains at home - it's all I need and it doesn't stick out into the doorway like the old one... P1060549.JPG It just gives room tor two short freight cars or a loco and one car. There's minimalist for you. The re...

Re: New Naples Street

I see what you mean. Yes, in fact that's the setup I have for Naples Street, two tracks leading into one as per the photo below. I could just about squeeze another track in the new plan as you suggest by using shorter turnouts but it's not worth it just for one extra spot. Mostly on Naples Street I ...

Re: New Naples Street

Here's stage one of the new layout - baseboards, with a close-up of the joining dowels. Just awaiting another layer of foamboard and a cork topping. Then to the fun bit - track.

Re: New Naples Street

I've already had a mishap with the baseboard and decided to start again. For the surface I decided to use 5mm foamboard in two layers, with a layer of cork sheet on top. The frame is going to be balsa, which I've used successfully before. Even this thin foamboard is quite rigid and pretty much dead ...

Re: New Naples Street

How are you going to switch the switches? Sorry, can't think of the proper English terms. Probably with wire in tube underneath. I don't bother with motors. If I find I need to power the frogs (unlikely as all my locos run well over them as they are) I'll install microswitches. But the less wiring ...

New Naples Street

I've made a start on my inventively named next layout by doing a potential track plan with AnyRail. It's the first time I've used this software and I like it. I've used the new Peco TT library they've incorporated. I was a bit concerned the turnouts wouldn't have a big enough radius but in fact they...

That's excellent, especially for a first attempt.
