SD7/SD9

SD7/SD9

Anyone know what wheelbase the trucks under the SD7 and SD9 had?

Since they're essentially the same thing with different trucks, I figured I could use the Lionel GP7 shell I have sitting about and build a new chassis for it to do an SD7, if I can find 6-wheel trucks that are an appropriate wheelbase. Side frame is a different question entirely...

The axles are 6 feet '9 1/2 inches on center, total of 13 feet 7 inches. They're the same spacing on most of the SD's from the SD7 up to the SD 50, with only some small differrences- friction vs roler bearings, brake cylinder location, etc.
Check out a BR120/M679 (I think it was, we discussed it a while ago?). The axle spacing is VERY close!

Thanks, Al! I'll look into that. And until such time as there's proper sideframes available, I can probably live with whatever's on the 120/M62. After that all I need is a string of ore jennies and a ribside caboose, and presto! Milwaukee limestone train! :D
