rokal couplers

Postby jmass » Thu Aug 06, 2009 5:29 pm

am thinking about putting in a bid for two items on ebay, a rokal passenger set with a br89 steam engine, and a 4car frieght set. the couplers on all of them look quite huge, sorta like american flyer couplers on s scale. does anyone know if they can be easily changed

So, based on this, the answer is no, there is no easy way to replace Rokal couplers with BTTB, and it is not very easy to modify Rokal couplers to connect with BTTB.

This is kind of the same situation as I had when I first bought some Marx trains for my O-27 layout, they used different couplers than Lionel does. The solution I had was to simply run the Marx trains and Lionel trains as I saw fit, even with one make on one line and another on the second line.

Just because the couplers are not compatable with the BTTB/Tillig type couplers does not mean that it is not worth collecting.
If you really wanted to, it is possible to fabricate a Tillig type coupler that can be placed onto a Rokal car.

A further possibility is to have one car be a "conversion car", where one type of coupler is on one end, and another on the other end.

Just my 2 cents.
