Detail and paint is of lesser quality than Tillig models. Mechanism operates smoothly. Comes with BTTB style couplers which can easily be replaced with Tillig type. You can't go wrong for the prices these models are offered at.

Re: Piko library model Q & A

Postby scaro » Sun Jan 24, 2010 5:08 pm

Can anyone who owns one of these and who doesn't mind tampering with loco mechs please post some shots of the trucks or, perhaps of the assembly diagrams they apparently come with?

I'm also keen to know the wheel diameters, seeing as they seem kind of big for TT (and therefore they might need to be replaced.)

Cheers

If you don't get an answer, remind me in a bout a week (haven't started unpacking from the move yet).

Ben, did you mean the Taurus or Hercules?

Hi Alex

I possibly meant the Hercules but I'm keen to see how the Piko trucks are put together and it is probably similar for both, and also I'm keen on knowing the wheel diameter, and again, it looks like it might be similar, so if you are able to post stuff on either loco it''ll come in handy.

Cheers

i believe the taurus has 25mm trucks which i'd assumed were a bit long for anything american.

EMD blombergs etc are 9' and alco and GE AAR trucks tended to be 9'4" wheelbase.

however i am told that baldwin AAR trucks were in fact 9'10" wheelbase, so for anyone wanting to make a baldwin loco, these trucks should be fine - i calculate 25mm to be 9'10"almost exactly.

babyfaces or sharknoses, anyone?
