NorthWest Short Line Closing

NorthWest Short Line Closing

Postby TinGoat » Mon Mar 18, 2019 12:04 pm

I just saw the announcement on facebook this morning.

NorthWest Short Line is closing:

The source for wheels and gears, etc...

The source for many tools...

Well, that sucks.

Hopefully somebody with enough money is willing to take over.

My first guess would be Walthers or Micro-Mark.

Best one to take over would be the owner of Fast Tracks, Tim Warris.

Yeah, or the owner of Rapido Trains, Jason Shron.

Or a parnership between them.

I'd like to see Tim since he has experience with machining. The gearing aspect of the hobby would be the hard part. You would need to know how to set up a Barber Coleman hobbing machine. I'm sure they have older machines from the pictures he has posted on FB. I would love to buy the whole outfit if I had the money. Guess I better go invest a couple of dollars in the lotto.

You're right: In my defense, I did say "My first guess".

Those big companies would farm the actual work out to some third world factory and both quality and variety would suffer.

We need an under-employed Tool and Die Machinist that could do Model Railroad stuff on the side...
