Auhagen narrow gauge replica in TT scale -- info needed

Postby CFRiad » Sun Sep 02, 2018 1:34 am

Today Bill and I briefly discussed adding the model of a narrow gauge or a garden railway to one of our modules.

Auhagen makes a replica of a mine railway in TT scale with a loco shed, 4.5 mm gauge track, dummy loco and dummy hoppers. Article numbers are 43700 to 43703. https://www.auhagen-shop.de/product_info.php?info=p441_narrow-gauge-railway-set-replica-with-engine-shed.html.

Has anybody tested these? Do the loco and cars have working wheels?

No, they are not working - the axles are molded into the base frame.
A modification for working axles is not easy, due to the material used for molding. Very weak and thin plastic around the wheel bearings. The Busch narrow gauge cars are wider in that area, ie the metal axles from Busch will not fit the Auhagen cars.
(I tested only the H0 narrow gauge system from Auhagen, and compared to my Busch narrow gauge system). The TT scale is smaller - only 4,5 mm tracks).

I have seen N gauge track and wheel sets used for narrow gauge mining set-ups. To my untrained eyes they looked fine!

I think the Z scale track are quite fine for our scale. It is almost half size to the normal gauge, what is fine.
The 9 mm would be rather for the narrow gauge main lines ( like in Switzerland or everywhere with 1067 mm gauge ( Asia, Africa etc).

Thanks for the prompt reply. It is very helpful: we will not be buying this.

There's always the Japanese ' T ' scale - 1:450.
