Fool or masochist might be better descriptions. On the other hand the fare was just over $200 from Toronto to Vancouver, purchased at bargain rates on-line from VIA. Meals not included. Food and drink on the train were excellent even in the coach-class dining car.

And to repeat, the VIA site it might be worthwhile. There's a picture of a bare-bones F40 frame.

I spent a semester in Edmonton back in '86. Three nights in coach... Toronto to Edmonton in February... But I was only 19 at the time and it was an adventure. Took a Birth on the way back home in June... Wish I could have seen more of Northern Ontario / Lake Superior during daylight hours...
