My new Chevrolet-Niva

Postby Arseny » Tue Nov 18, 2014 2:21 pm

Sometimes ago we've discussed the "Russian-American" cars and trucks.
Sevral days ago I've purchased a new car (1:1 scale  ) and it is just Russian-American!
It is Chevrolet; I had bought it in Chevrolet/Opel dealership; it has Chevrolet emblem on the grille... but at the same time it is Niva!
(I suppose some Canadian fellows can remember old Niva 4*4 car - it was exported to Canada until 1997, and of course European guys can remember it too). BTW, old Niva is still available as "Lada 4*4", 3-door and 5-door stretched versions.
This one is Niva of the new generation, produced by GM-AvtoVAZ, a joint venture of AvtoVAZ (the parent company of the Lada brand) and General Motors, as "Chevrolet-Niva".

Mechanically it is the same old good Niva, a bit improved to reduce noise and vibrations. The body is new, and it is much more comfortable. It features 1.7-litre I-4 gasoline engine with fuel injection, 80 hp (not too powerful but I beleive it will be enough for me); 5-speed manual transmisson that can be locked manually for off-roading.
As for fuel economy: it takes 14 l/100 km (19.5 mpg) in the city, and 9 l/100 km (26 mpg) on the highway.
I hope we'll not face any problems with our trips to our summer hose in winter, or any other trips outside the city. And even in the city, if municipal services will not clear the snow well! 8-)

It looks good, but I think you need to add some red racing stripes to make it look "mean"!

What do you mean by "mean"?
The dictionary show me the 1st meaning: "wretched; poor, squalid, miserable..."

"Chevy Niva". Wait long enough and everything will happen.

In fact, it is produced since 1998, with slight restyling in 2009.

...but it is true for me! I wanted to buy just Chevy-Niva for several years...

Well I don't think you are any of those!
A MEAN car looks aggressive, powerful, intimidating, or just plain cool!

Al,

In Russia those guys, who want to look agressive, use bullbars

But I think if I want to look agressive and powerful, I'll wait for new version of Chevy-Niva

(It was shown at the auto show in Moscow and is thought to be available in 2016)

This value absolutely complys with Central European prejudices about the thirst of Russian and American engines, as well.

Nice car!
Have fun!
