If I am not mistaken, we discussed it sometimes ago, and there was some youtube movie from gabbysuz :

Notice blue tank car on 0:14 - it is Maisto.

And also some pictures here:

All Maisto too small for the TT. In one set of wagons put Maisto and normal 1:120 not very noticeable.

Here Maisto and Rokal.

Maisto is too small... but Rokal is too big for TT.

Somewhere I have a photo on here of a Maisto GP with a Lionel GP7. There is little difference in the overall size , so it could be used as "filler" or even the basis of new equipment.

Lok&roll sells a low nose gp9 chassis. i wonder if that would fit in these maistos.

I measured the outside quite a while ago, I thought maybe the Maisto hood could be the basis of a long hood for TT, but it wouldn't work. The hood width is a hair narrower on the Maisto than on the Lionels so I'm not sure if the LnR chassis would fit. The details weren't great on the Maisto shell when I stripped it either. Plus it's obviously too small when they're side by side.
The cars can be made to work, and the general public that sees them might not realize that they're off size but anyone familiar with the real thing will pick it out right away. I just wish they would have picked a real scale size when they did them!
