Thanks very much for taking the time to answer my questions. Having no experience in CNC I would never have considered the issues you have pointed out. I greatly appreciate the time and effort you have taken.

I'm using the following setup to make my own rail switches from scratch and remove other material as needed. Naturally I eventually destroyed the bearing in the rotary tool; replaced with a higher quality bearing of the same size. Someday when I can afford it, I'll get a proper milling machine.
