At my set of passenger cars are the trucks out of resin. So I have organized old Rokal trucks with new Mueller wheelsets. These wheels are a bit oversized (8.3mm - 39"). But we'll see what it looks like. - we send worldwide :wink:

I have sent Jan a PM about 36 inch wheels. My approach with Fox Valley wheels and bearing inserts might not be successful, so it's good to have another option.

Several months ago I lent out one of the brass castings so we could have resin castings copied from it. The resin copies are shaped to accept the tapered axles on Fox Valley wheels. But the copies are brittle and I haven't received any for my own use yet.

My goal is to have the passenger coaches and the F3s ready for our show in March.

The paint on the locomotive is pretty stubborn. I use a stripper purchased two or three years ago at a nearby store. It looks like yogurt and is caustic and usually effective.

It has taken hours to get the paint out of the small crevices, mostly with a toothpick, sometimes with a hobby knife - but I'm careful with that to avoid scratching the metal. Another application of stripper will finish the job and the second body will be done at the same time.

The goal is to get them to look something like the real one in the photo.
Every step is an opportunity for misadventure.

Don't know if you have True Value Hardware in your area, but the "Zip Strip Premium Paint and Finish Remover # 272012" works pretty good at removing the paint from the Lionel shells. I don't know if this is still available, since it's been 3 or 4 years since I stripped a Lionel shell. For the nooks and crannies, try a wire brush in a Dremel tool....if you're not to aggressive, you won't leave any marks. You can always try the fiber brush in the Dremel tool, don't know if it will work as well, since it is softer than the wire brush. Please wear safety glasses when using the Dremel !!!

Thanks for the advice, milwrd1, though I didn't heed it. Having lots of stripper I didn't feel like buying more. Also I didn't want to get a power tool anywhere near the surface of the Lionel shell. I got by with what I had and used toothpicks and a tooth brush to get paint out of the tiny spots.

The Blomberg frames are not a perfect fit as I said they were. They don't latch to the wheel units. Others may have discovered this already, so I apologise for misleading information. There's no point in suing me because I have spent all my money on TT models.

I cut the latching tabs off the ends of the frames and secured the frames with screws - 00-90 used for mounting couplers. I tried to arrange them symmetrically so the frames could be mounted either way to either truck. But probably the work isn't precise enough to allow that. At any rate since there are openings around the gears lubrication can be applied without removing the frames each time.

The other photo shows my improvised spray painting booth. It's a large cardboard box from recycling and put on top of the kitchen stove. Opening in the top is covered with disposable dust cloth and allows ventilation by the fan in the hood over the stove. Another opening covered with a clear plastic bag lets in some light. The whole thing would be grounds for divorce if I were married. But it works.

The passenger cars are assembled and covered with primer. I am working on filling and sanding before spraying a second coat.
