What a great steam locomotive. Pretty good for us modeler is the simple valve gear. One main rod and not much else. An 8-axle tender is there a bit trickier. :o

So Lionel has re-started that release program again or is the S2 a one off? They did it in the Great American Trains series that were HO/OO'ish 15 years back, also a Berkshire which did not appear n the 1/120 set.

Sorry, I see the "1999" now. I had not recalled that one being issued, at least I didn't get it and I thought I had bought them all. Must have been a more limited release given the silver tin packaging.

This could a "not too hard" project to motorize.

Given my predilection for odd locomotives, I do have plans to power my S-2 model eventually, and it will likely be the first of the steamers from my collection of 1/120 Lionel to get converted to running order.

The silver tins were limited Lionel Century Club series. At ebay is another S2 turbine listed.
