Here my sketch:

one L-shape can be permanently connected (here the upper one, upside down)

What is the maximum height of the bundle?

Edit: same picture size but different display?!

Next question:

How "packed" do you want the layout?

Right now, I am operating under the premise that I am building it as I would use it, given that all structures would have to be readily obtainable as new, i.e. no scratch built buildings.

Another question, would you be opposed to using N scale building at the far end of the layout for a sense of distance?

I will have to apologize for the picture quality -- I recently replaced my scanner/printer, and I have not gotten the scan function to work yet, although the copier function works just fine.

@ MacG There is no reason to break it down into small modules. That just adds more track connections that have to align. I'm planing on building the whole thing very light weight so the large Ls won't weigh much.

@ Angry Thanks for the plan. I would prefer more railroad related structures - maybe even all. Industry and others....I don't really care for towns.

Understood.

Would the "old timer locomotive display track" still be acceptable in future designs?

What track are you planning on using?
Set track - Tillig bettungsleis or Kuehn or flexi-track and who's points/switches. Manual or electric points/switches.
Should the control panel be built into the board(s) or separate?
Electrical connections between boards ??

Track doesn't matter as long as it's not Tillig bedding track. The 13.75" radius roughly corresponds to the Tillig 353mm. Control panel will be separate, electrical connections don't matter.
