HP Products Ripple Ramps

The HP Products Ripple Ramp is a type of uncoupler that was used in conjunction with their "link" automatic couplers, similar in working to the couplers used by Zeuke at the time in function, but not compatibility.

The Ripple Ramp was installed in a straight section of track (ideally a siding) where one would frequently uncouple cars. The idea is to back the train up over the installed ramp, and stop with a set of couplings over the ramp. With the ramp pushing up on the links from below, when the train moved forward, the train would uncouple at that point.

Ideally, as long as the train kept moving while traversing the ramp, it would stay together. In reality that was not always the truth, which led to the development of better coupling systems in the future.
