HP Products Auto-Box-Reefer Kit

Postby CSD » Thu Oct 29, 2009 11:11 pm

I was going through my stuff and came upon this. Forgot it was there. It is totally unassembled, even the coupler kit and detail part envelopes are still sealed. The side of the box advertises "For card table or club room operation" and "Operate scale trains at scale length". I think a few of you may be interested... Sailor.

Definitely interested.

I have an express reefer kit that had some damage to the bulkheads.... I did not realize it until after the glue had set that the prior attempt to complete the kit ended with some of the parts, including the bulkhead getting cut down in size.

At the risk of sounding smug, but I think I may be the resident HP Products specialist.... I really do need to round up the fleet, good shape-restored-or-not and get "family photos taken".

Enough with the rambling.

Yes, I am interested, VERY interested.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be misleading. It is not for sale. However; I can get a good scan of the instructions and take some detailed photos/measurements if you are interested in replicating the kit. I think I will preserve this one in its present condition.

Replicating the kit is kine as well, just will not have the HP couplers (I am in the process of phasing those out in lieu of Kadee 713/714s) and will have Possum Valley Models roller bearing trucks.

It is always nice to see photos of HP products items.

You dont have to have one of the kits to build these.

These are very basic kits and you can easily build on from scratch using the plans above,

You can get a ruler divided into 10ths instead of 16s and measure of the drawing.

These are a scale 40' long so you just enlarge the scan so that the box car is 4" long.

If you use thin card stock you can even make the car sides on your computer and print them off. You turn the cars side over and scribe the vertical lines with a ball point pen from the back so it is raised on the front.

Reefers are built the same but have roof hatches for ice loading.
