What is the minimum radius for this locomotive?
Does it take 310mm? Or 286mm?

I have been able to run it on 286mm (approx. 11") radius track. I have heard that the HP 2-8-0 can handle less than that, but I have no narrower curved track, yet.

Thinking about the HP 2-8-0 I got one of mine out of it's box tonight for a look at it. This one has valve gear which all the ones in the photo's above don't have and doesn't show in the 1948 instructions. Does anyone know if there was an extra set of parts available at any time to improve the basic loco .

Could you show some pictures of yours 2-8-0? I have some extra parts of valve gear too, but it looks like it was made from parts of antoher HP locomotive. Will post my pictures in a few days as soon as i get my camera back.

Can't really do that just now as it is just a box of parts. I bought this as a kit a while back but there is another box inside which says 2-8-0 valve gear kit such as is fitted to the larger HP loco's I think Al might be able to explain more on this one

Now it's clear.
HP produced the "driver replacement set" with spoked wheels and upgraded valvegear.
I've found this information in an ad of HP here =)
