How to disassemble a Lok-N-Roll/Lionel F-3

Postby AstroGoat760 » Wed Jan 20, 2016 9:03 pm

My Lok-N-Roll/Lionel Pennsy F-3 just developed a problem that makes it unable to run. Somewhere between the motor shaft and the worm on the front gear set is broken and/or disconnected, and I cannot seem to figure out where the problem is without taking the shell off of the chassis.

The problem is that I cannot seem to be able to disconnect the shell without somehow damaging it or the chassis. How are the two put together?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Can you post a detailed pic of the bottom of the loco?

I found the screws used to hold the shell on, they were partially under the trucks. The problem was the drive line between the motor u-joint and the bogie u-joint. The drive line is in three sections, two of the ends of the "dogbone" are plastic, with a metal section connecting the two. The end that connects to the truck came loose and is to be glued back together again. Pictures of the repair process in the next few days.

It is fixed. The glue is holding the driveline together and the engine is running good now.

Here is a picture of the problem, before it was fixed:

Ah yes, a driveshaft extension.
