PS-2 2-bay hopper is a good idea. It can work for the transition era, and it is compact - it is important for the small layouts...

That would be a good choice - but I would prefer a hopper which was not made before in TT scale. PS2 2-bay hoppers were available as wood+metal kits. I have 6 of them (and I like them)
I would prefer 4 bay hoppers from PRRs H21 goup. (that is 10 subtypes to chose from)
If it has to be something newer, then 3 bay hopper PRR H43 (4+1 subtypes) = N&W H11
