Here I go again.....

Here I go again.....

Postby ConducTTor » Tue Jan 15, 2013 10:56 pm

This is the general plan for my new layout. I say "general" because I'm sure things will probably change but that's half the fun

It's two main lines, a big station, a small industrial station and, the staging under it.

The first pic is all the tracks, the second without the staging. In some places the track looks a bit wacky but don't pay attention to that. I'll clean up the plans and post again - this is just to get an idea of what I'm doing.

I decided not to use helixes because of the radii they would require (~38"/400mm) and the grade that would be associated with that (trying to stay around 2%, 3%max). The difference between the lowest point (staging) and the main station will be 6 inches. The highest point will be the small industrial station, roughly 8 inches higher than the main station. The grade between the two will be relatively steep but that's done on purpose - the small station is inspired by the Rubelandbahn and therefore there will be two locos (front and back) for each train.

The big station is split between passenger traffic above the main tracks (green) with longest spur being ~240cm and freight traffic (below main) with longest spur at ~ 270cm.

More details as I think of them. Feel free to critique/ask questions!

Looks good Alex. What are the overall dimensions? Guessing around 8'x12'.

Don't remember the exact dimensions off top of my head (plans are at home) but lower half is about 14' * 40", upper is about 20' * 40". Room is roughly 10 * 20.

This thing is going to be pretty big, hey. Good for you.

If the main line at the top is going to be exposed, have you considered putting the branch line on the outside track and then having it cross the mains on a bridge to reach the end of the branch? Might make a nice way to hide the mains disappearance into staging.

That line - "the return line" will be hidden.

Will there be any connection points for TTnut modules?

Interesting question!

This would bring a lot of interesting possibilities on exhibitions.

There won't. What I plan on doing is making the small industrial station above the staging removable (it's roughly 8 feet long). Probably 2 pieces. Then I'll be able to take that to shows and add a loop to it.
