First one for the Gutzold Topic!

Model comes in a blue cardboard box with styrofoam, form fitting interior. The unfortunate thing is that the foam is not shaped to accommodate the couplers once installed, so you have to remove them or modify the packaging.

Couplers supplied are of the BTTB type, but the model is equipped with NEM coupler pockets and close coupling mechanisms on the front and back. (model is pictured with Kuehn couplers)

Lighting uses a warm white LED's and reverses with direction. Gutzold has used a very small LED so that the white reflector is depicted on the model.

The mechanism is located in the tender and is very compact. Operation is smooth and quiet. Pick up is from all wheels on the tender and the 2 front sets of driving wheels. Connection of the 2 halves is with a circuit board style clamp. Access to the mech is a bit tricky. One has to pull out the long step at the back and then pull the top off. The front end is held with very tight snap which made removal nerve racking as quite a bit of pressure had to be applied. A 6 pin digital socket is supplied, but very little room remains for the decoder. You can see in the picture of the front of the tender that the top is being pushed up a little by the decoder I selected.

I would say that the detail is just slightly better than a Roco steam locomotive. Most of the details are comparable, but a few extra bits are picked out on the Gutzold model such as the suspension system behind the drivers. The cab interior is also picked up very nicely (note the red reverser). A bag of separately applied detail parts are supplied (brake hoses, etc.).

Instructions are all in German with pictures. I would recommend translating the shell removal instructions rather than going just by the pictures.

Nice looking model. I'd love to see it run if you get a chance.

close up
one more close-up, I think the details come out very nicely in this shot thanks to CSD`s new layout lighting.

Some more info on the prototype:

Good news CSD, your loco (BR 24 004) is still around today, this makes it perfect and true to the original for our modern operation as a preserved loco.

Very nice model, indeed. Too bad they do not manufacture TT models anymore. I've heard that the company is closing its doors.
