Nice looking projects. From all the postings lately it looks like a majority are getting their layouts moving a long.

Random lights

Some recent development on G&DTT:

On a local fleamarket I found a set of electronic candle ( for almost free of charge, in 12 units there were also the working button batteies CR3032. :-) )
Each candle LED has a built in random light generator to simulate the candle flacker.
It is perfect for my projects to bring more light effect on the layout.

The modification is simple:
Remove the LEDs from the candle ( you can sell the batteries - all were working :-) )

On the schematic diagram designed for 12V DC wiring, there are just 4 components.
The resistor reducing the voltage for the candle LED D0 to max 3.5V - 4V!!!!
This voltage must be stabilized - what is done with 1 or 2 LEDs on the right side (D1 and D2). If one of the LEDs is white or blue the second LED can be abandoned.
You can use 2 yellow LEDs or blue/white with a red LED, etc. The simple way to test the circuit before you connect the candle LED is to measure the voltage on the bottom end of the resistor with only the D1 and D2 LEDs. This voltage should be between 3-4V. Not more, the higher voltage kills the candle LED processor!
When the voltage is OK you can connect the candle LED and you will see the effect! You can vary the resistor (for higher value to get the required effect). The value 820 Ohms is just an example for the 10 mA current LEDs(D1 and D2). For older D1 and D2 LEDs on 12V you can reduce the resistor to about 560 Ohm.

Here is a short video about the TV immitation:

Enjoy the new cheap light effect!

Bryce canyon

Not really, i try to avoid to model an exact prototype, but combine my travel experiences. Similar rocks in different color (redish) are for example in Bryce Canyon in Utah, or in Europe in several places in Carpathian mountains (they are mostly gray/black. In South East Asia similar rocks are usually covered by green vegetation (Vietnam, China, Thailand).

Almost done

I am now done with my turntable. It is already installed into the main station. The last weekend i spent in one of the nice museums and got an idea to make a picture from the roundhouse (front side) and install as a background around the turntable ( I do not have a space to build a real one is there any "artist" who could help me with a photo collage?
Something like this picture, without the diesel in front of the roundhouse.
Thanks!
