Okay, so here I present the visual information I've been able to gather out of the digital portion of my materials, on G31-type gondolas and their clones. I grabbed a few photos from the Tangent site, too, that are germane here.

I wonder, if there were any painting schemas without white letters?
I can print decals on my printer, but I can print only black and/or color decals, not white.
Most of photos are black-and-white, so I can not identify, if they are white or maybe color...

So, I can use:
Southern Pacific 160100-160149 - white car, black letters?
Southern Pacific 320000-320349 - red car, yellow letters?
Wabash 12600-12649 - red car, yellow letters
Detroit, Toledo & Ironton 9100-9299 - also yellow letters?

Am I right?

Maybe some else?..

No. This is a builder's photo, in "builder's grey" (what in German is called "Fotolackierung"). The car was painted in a water-soluble light-grey paint with black lettering - usually only half the car - just for taking the builder's photo; the light grey made it easier to discern the details on the car in a black & white photo. This is more properly either black or freight car red (both variants existed) with white lettering.

No, these all had white lettering.

The Sacramento Northern and Western Pacific cars had yellow letters on black.

Looks like I stumbled onto a pretty popular choice

Here’s today’s rendition, in builder's grey. Got the wheels moved to the correct location but I think the HP trucks are a little short. Close enough for me.

I’m going to widen the two end supports and add a narrow one on the right side like below. Then the holes will go in them instead of the panel. That will give a little more depth for attaching the grab irons too. Also got the coupler height correct.
