Funny story in the news...

We both had a good laugh at this story. With all of the spikes and full sized rail equipment we have, we should be set for defense!

Woman uses railroad spike to battle intruder

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (AP) - When an intruder came into her home, Stephanie Molina grabbed the first thing she could find to fight him off - a railroad spike. It worked, and police followed the trail of blood to the suspect's apartment.

The Southeast Missourian reported that Molina was at their Poplar Bluff apartment early Friday when a man began shouting outside their door, saying, "Jerry, you owe me money." Molina said the didn't know anyone named Jerry.

Police said 45-year-old Glen Waltman kicked in the door, grabbed Molina and hit her. She picked up the spike and fought back.

Police followed the blood trail to Waltman's apartment in the same building. He was arrested after struggling with police.

It wasn't clear if Waltman had an attorney. He was charged with burglary and robbery.

Well, we all seem to have some kind of running gag reputation here. You are an "alcoholic", James is a grumpy cranky person with a love affair with his tractors, and I am the only active woman here, so I am an odd one anyways.....

Here is another funny story in the news....

Man waits for 'ghost train,' killed by real one

Aug. 28, 2010 11:02 AM
Associated Press

STATESVILLE, N.C. - Authorities say a man who was waiting with several friends for a "ghost train" from a North Carolina legend was killed when a real train came down the tracks.

Iredell County Sheriff Phil Redmond says 29-year-old Christopher Kaiser of Charlotte was killed about 2:45 a.m. Friday as he waited with friends at a railroad trestle. Redmond says witnesses said about 12 people were on the trestle hoping to see a ghost train when the real train rounded a bend.

Everyone but Kaiser was able to clear the tracks at the end of the trestle. The train struck Kaiser, who was thrown into a ravine.

The legend developed from a train wreck on Aug. 27, 1891, that killed about two dozen people and injured many others. Folklore Web sites claim the accident can be heard on each anniversary.
