The stuff that comes out of their US factory is complete garbage. There needs to be massive improvement in many areas before I consider Shapeways a legitimate solution.

Can you choose to order from the European factory? Or, maybe Ben can place an order and have them shipped here.

It looks great in the photos!

There is no such option.

Rob, Alex, I don't mind placing European orders for things that are to be used as masters because it might kick some projects along.

And it arrives already packed up ... I just need to mail it. Though I might reserve the right to have a peek.

Thanks Ben, I just might take you up on that.

I think the problem with the US Shapeways is that for most of their customers the 'cool factor' far out weighs the lack of quality so not enough people are rejecting their orders.

in one way, though, sending to SW at all does sound a long-way-round solution, especially if you are the designer, in which case you can choose where to send your stuff.

i-materialise are based in belgium and i'm sure they accept designs from america, and their stuff is streets ahead of shapeways in all respects and not particularly expensive.

Correct. I'm using them for prototyping now.
