For 80+ year old film, it's not too bad.

I love the spectators around the de-railment near the end.

Ian,

Nice find. Me and some friends did quite a bit of railfanning back in the late 70's. I've got pictures with that yard tower in it. I'll have to dig them out someday and scan the slides. We did quite a bit of railfanning up and down the D&H. The Colonie shops were nice to. Spent a whole day wandering around the yards. One of my most prized possessions is the reversing handle out of #17 PA4.

Thanks for this, I 've also bumped around D&H property over the years....namely Mechanicsville, NY yard, but also been to Oneonta....alas, much later.

These units were being prepared to be sent to Mexico. There were four PA's. They were rebuilt Santa Fe units. When the D&H bought them they were PA3's. The D&H rebuilt them and they were designated PA4's. I'd have to look up what got changed. Outside appearance didn't change. BTW, the mechanic that handed me the handle said that the Mexicans could use a screw driver to reverse the engine. He wasn't happy to see them go south of the boarder.

I remember reading an article on them and later that one or two were retrieved for preservation.
The South Australian railways had a version of these, their 900 class.
