Couplings for European TT

Couplings for European TT

Postby Whiteoak13 » Fri Jun 22, 2018 12:31 pm

As noted elsewhere I'm not going to try American TT for now......

I do want to have a go at modern day European TT. I have a couple of items on order.
Couplings seem to be an issue.

I want hands free, ramp free, magnetic uncoupling as with KDs
What are the options and pros and cons

Thanks

Look around on this site there is a topic discussing the couplings. I think there are all answers to your question

For complete hand free uncoupling I would suggest the digital coupler from SD-Modell.de.

The normal Tillig or Kuehn coupler needs a magnet on a stick to lift the hooks, or an uncoupler between the rails, like Herkat 2706.
Lok-n-Roll.de - we send worldwide

You can use MTL (N-scale) couplers. It has been discussed earlier. There is a model train club in Prague which is using MTL couplers for all their modesl . They tried Kadee (H0n3) couplers too. Kadee couplers had some problems, magnetic uncoupling H0n3 couplers on EU cars caused derailing sometimes.
The coupler height for European TT is 5.5 mm, lower than for for NA.
Here is their www page Google-translated:

(use your imagination to understand the machine translation, it got many technical terms wrong)
