Comcast internet and cable sucks Haggis

Postby ConducTTor » Sat Jan 16, 2010 4:41 am

I can't believe this idiot company is allowed to practice business. After completing application for new service, I started a live chat to inquire why I should pay $149 for a guy to take a coax cable and screw it into the modem. At this point I'd spent well over an hour trying to perform what one would think is a simple task - asking a question. To my highly UN-delightful surprise, it turns out that I actually had to pay even more. Here is the conversation that transpired:

analyst "John Doe" has entered room

John Doe>Hello Alex, Thank you for contacting Comcast Live Chat
Support. My name is John Doe. Please give me one moment to
review your information.

John Doe>Hi. How are you doing?

Alex>if your website worked I would be doing better. live chat dropped me 5 times so far.

John Doe>I am sorry to hear that Alex.

Alex>why am I being charged $150 for "computer installation"? I
know how to hook up a cable to modem and then to a computer

John Doe>I do apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you?
John Doe>I do apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you

Alex>so why am I being charged?

Alex>I had no option to remove that "service"

John Doe>Alex, the professional installation is very important since
the technician should see to it that everything is working and
have your services activated. No worries, I will find you a
better deal on the one time install fees.

John Doe>Will that be okay with you?

Alex>I would prefer to not pay anything. The cable goes into the
router. The router goes to the pc. why is that a charge at
all?

John Doe>Please give me one moment.
John Doe>Alex, I see here that you want to order Digital Starter: 6
months Offer and $19.99/month for 6 months promotion for
internet, correct?

Alex>correct

John Doe>Alex, I can give you the promotional rate for cable however
for the internet service, it will be on its regular rate.
Since internet promotion is only available to current
customers who have comcast cable or phone service for the last
120 days at the present address. I

John Doe>I suggest that we will cover first the promotions for cable
and you can then order internet service after 30 days from the
date of installation. In that way too, you can get a self
install kit and you can install the internet service on your
own for free."
<--- wasn't I just told that "the professional installation is very important"? Apparently it's not.

"John Doe>Will that work?

Alex>so what you're telling me is that if I want internet now I have
to not only pay $150 for installation but the offer for
19.99/month for 6 months from YOUR website is no good?

John Doe>Alex that the internet promotion, is available to current
Comcast customers. The $150 installation can be discounted for
as low as 50% though however the price for the internet
service will be at its regular rate.

Alex>I had two options to click: current customer and new customer,

Alex>I clicked "new customer",

Alex>when I did that, the price for internet service did not
change,

Alex>nor did I get a message saying "this offer is not valid for
new customers" so,

John Doe>Alex, I understand your concern. The site will give general
information on all the services being offered. That is the
reason why online reps are here to explain further what the
web site cannot provide.

Alex>what I thought I was going to pay - because your website says
so - is actually a lie

Alex>well if the site is giving misleading information then the
site does not work - or Comcast doesn't mind lying to it's
customers

John Doe>If you wish I can find a better deal on the internet service.
I also feel how you feel but you can always refer to our Terms
and Conditions for further information on this Alex.

John Doe>The terms and conditions will help you understand what I am
trying to offer you Alex.

Alex>What I wish is that you give me what your site says I'm
getting. without the ridiculous installation charge"

At this point I lost interest in Comcast's crap.

"Alex>I want you to cancel everything immediately. I will get
service from ATT. Please confirm that all has been canceled.

John Doe>I understand that Alex.

Alex>by the way I hope Comcast realizes that showing something
during the registration / purchasing process and then telling
the customer "oh well, we didn't really mean that! You have to
pay more than we told you : )" is consumer fraud.

John Doe>I have not processed the order yet for you since I am
considering other options.. You can also call our toll free
number for this concern. They might be able to waive the
install fee for the internet service for you. I do apologize
however our resources are limited.

Alex>if your website does not reflect reality, you should not use
it as a selling tool

John Doe>I will take note of what you have said Alex.

John Doe>Your concerns will be noted Alex.

Alex>So everything is canceled correct?

John Doe>Yes Alex.

Alex>thank you for your time.

I had major problems with Comcast when I was stationed in Charleston, SC some years back.

If you lived in the barracks, like I did until I got married in late 2003, the only choice you were given for cable and internet was Comcast. Due to the fact that the base was just outside the city limits of not one, but 3 cities, the base and it's residents were charged rural rates, which are about $30-100 more per month, depending on what services you wanted.

For the internet, you HAD to rent one of their modems, if you had your own, you could not use it. If you wanted to use a router so your roommate can use his computer as well, as there is only one cable tap in each barracks room, you had to rent that as well, and the rent for that was almost as much as doubling the internet bill, without doubling the service speed or bandwidth.

Oh, and did I mention the fact that, despite thousands of customers in the barracks and in base housing, both the enlisted and officer portions, the service was not able to handle more than half of the customers on at one time, it was almost impossible to check one's e-mail on Friday afternoons.

There was service outages galore. And they HATED me because if the service was down for any period of time, I made sure that customer service knew about it, demanding that I be credited for my bill, as I was not paying them for periods of no service.

Then there was the time that my cable modem gave out. It took them 3 months to get it replaced, and tried to charge me for it's failure, when it was found that the lot it came from was defective and subsequently recalled by it's maker. Despite no internet service, they demanded that I pay them for the 3 months, or I would be sued for breech of contract.

They were that terrible even in base housing, as they had strong armed the contractors that ran base housing to make it impossible to seek a different provider. When they "upgraded", the price of services went up, but service speed was still flatlined. I complained about that quite a bit, as did everyone else, as the rate hikes were only applied to the base. At one point, basic internet was about $50 more per month on base, than off.

When we moved, they insisted that we have one of their retarded goons do the "removal services", i.e. disconnect the router, for proper router turn-in. When I found that there would be a fee for this, I refused. The guy still came out, and insisting that he be paid for his "services". I refused, and as such, they refused to take back the modem.

When they refused to take back the modem, they decided that I should pay them for a new one. I called Navy legal services, and they had a chat with Comcast and forced them to take the modem back with no additional fees tied on.

When I got the modem back to them, I was asked how I liked my time with Comcast, and if I was interested in using them again.

I told them no, and the first comcast person to show up at my new address is going to be the last.

Haggis Comcast. Comcast is the connecticut of the utilities world.

Comcast up here is really annoying. Even after the do not call list, we still get calls from them with their "awesome and money saving" offers. Back in SC there was only a few ads here an there, on billboards and the like.

Here in CONnecticut we get a comcast flyer either in our door, taped to our truck and car, or in the mail about every other week, sometimes more often. For those that were curious, the majority of the paper used to start the fire that the old camera was destroyed in was comcast ads.

Usually, if they call and James is nearby, I will hand the phone to him, and let him unleash his anger at them in his unique ways. Telemarketers and those annoying shits that go from door to door trying to get people to sign up for comcast hate him, especially after he points to the sign on the door regarding no solicitation.

Perhaps a poll should be started to see how many hate comcast versus being apathetic towards comcast...

Haha, I've got no problem with them. I've only got basic cable so I can watch the GoldenState Warriors games but it works fine and their office is close by with a hot receptionist......dave

Oh I am pretty sure that the attractiveness of the receptionist is probably the biggest thing on the "plus side" of Comcast.

Just because someone is attractive does not necessarily mean that the person is nice, or even intelligent. Hell, she could be mean as crap; one of those that screams harassment if you tell her that she looks nice.

I have nothing to say about Comcast, for not having them here. But the initial sentiment I can echo very strongly towards Rogers, for reasons I don't want to get into! Suffice to say, horrible experience.
